It has been established since the early 1990s that the erosion of biodiversity – which is reflected in the increasing rate of extinction of plant and animal species – is due to the destruction of natural habitats. The book places this observation at the center of the discussion and opens the debate on the digital tools available to improve vegetation inventory standards, demonstrating the need to rethink the scientific approach in a broader and more inspiring European context.
Constructed and written in a didactic manner and richly illustrated, the book presents the state of the art in vegetation research: from field data collection to remote sensing methods and conservation applications.
Drawing on the author's solid experience, the book offers methodological tools for vegetation scientists to improve their study approach and thus make conservation and restoration more effective.
Jan-Bernard Bouzillé est Professeur émérite à l’Université de Rennes, rattaché à l’UMR 6553 CNRS – UR Écobio – Écosystèmes, Biodiversité, Évolution, au campus scientifique de Beaulieu à Rennes et Membre participant à European Vegetation Archive. Il est auteur de nombreux livres et publications sur les problématiques relatives à la biodiversité, à la dégradation et à la destruction des habitats naturels. Il milite en faveur d’une meilleure compréhension des approches et études des habitats naturels au niveau national et européen.
