An essential reference in scientific publishing, La méthanisation remains the only French-language work to present a complete overview of theoretical and practical knowledge of this technology and its applications.

Since the previous edition, the number of digesters in France has grown considerably, raising questions about the energy and environmental impact of anaerobic digestion. With this fourth edition, we felt it was important to provide concrete scientific answers to these questions, in order to encourage rational thinking and ensure the sustainable development of the industry.

Four new chapters are devoted to digestates and their use in agriculture, associated health issues, odor generation and management, and biomethane energy recovery. Many chapters have also been thoroughly revised, to present an up-to-date knowledge front on all subjects. Last but not least, the book is enriched by a nineteenth chapter, dedicated to research topics with innovative prospects, such as biological methanation, microbial electrochemistry, multiomics technologies, and the production of biohydrogen and biomolecules.

Bringing together the contributions of forty-one researchers and experts from the public and private sectors, specialists in various fields, the book summarizes scientific, technical, legal and regulatory knowledge, and covers all applications and technologies, including the most innovative, related to methanization. Designed to be instructive, it is aimed at a wide readership, including students and their teachers, researchers and professionals in the sector, whether industrialists, farmers or field operators.
