A holistic, polyphonic approach to the subject that questions the practice of caregiving
While the visibility of trans people has risen sharply, there are still many divergences and controversies, particularly between those affected and (mostly cis) professionals. They concern both treatment - and in particular the terms and/or conditions of access to care during transition - and the views of medical staff on trans people.
The book brings together testimonies from those concerned. The words of trans activists rub shoulders with those of healthcare professionals - doctors, pediatricians, urologists, psychiatrists, reproductive medicine specialists - as well as academics - psychoanalysts, sociologists, philosophers - and artists involved in the trans world.
By proposing a radically different approach to the discourse on transidentity, these testimonies open up another avenue of exploration: how does transidentity affect us, whether we're trans or cis, and how does it influence medical practice and care?
